RAMARA, ON, June 23, 2021 – The Township of Ramara has partnered with HONK, North America’s leading provider of contactless payments for parking, to implement a paid parking pilot program in Ramara. Starting immediately, residents and visitors who park at Bluebird Park, Lagoon City Beach and Park, and Lovely Day Park will have access to five paid parking spots, and the safest and fastest contactless parking experience in Canada. Drivers have two touch-free ways to pay with HONK: (1) scan their phone on a QR code located onsite for a quick guest checkout experience, or (2) download the free HonkAPP from the App Store or Google Play.

At each municipal parking lot location, there will by five (5) parking spots available for paid parking. Parking will cost $5 per hour and is available between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. There will be no overnight parking, commercial vehicle parking or unattached trailer parking allowed at each of these municipal parking lot locations. Residents are encouraged to register for their TWO FREE parking permits that they can use at these municipal parking lot or on-street parking locations. Residents and visitors can learn more at ramara.ca/parking.

“The Township of Ramara is thrilled to partner with HONK to offer safe, contactless paid parking,” said Ramara Mayor, Basil Clarke. “As the province of Ontario continues to open up, it’s important that we offer visitors a safe and contactless way to park. Rolling out HONK’s contactless parking solution has enabled us to quickly pivot our parking operation to allow non-residents, and residents without permits, to park in our popular waterfront locations.”

Located at each municipal parking lot location, the HonkTAP payment option allows drivers to safely pay for parking with a scan of their phone. With no app to download or pay station to touch, paying for parking is easier and safer than ever. After scanning the QR code, drivers tap on a pop-up notification to open up a payment screen that is pre-loaded with the rate options. Drivers simply type in their license plate and select for how long they want to park. The HONK payment system integrates directly with the Ramara’s parking enforcement – passing paid parking sessions to enforcement officers in real-time.

For app lovers, the HonkAPP is another contactless payment option for drivers who wish to pay for parking and manage a session directly from their phone. As with the HonkTAP option, drivers can pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and all major credit cards. Drivers can also opt to receive text reminders when their parking is set to expire, and can add more time to their parking session directly from their phone – no need to rush back to feed the meter!

“Drivers everywhere are now seeking safe and easy ways to pay for parking,” said Michael Back, HONK Founder and CEO. “HONK is excited to expand our presence in regions across Ontario and give drivers access to the very best parking experience in Canada.”
