HONK Goes Live at McGill University – Making Parking Easier for Students and Visitors

McGill University has officially launched HONK, North America’s leading provider of contactless payments for parking and mobility, as its mobile parking platform for students and visitors across campus.

MONTREAL, QC, February 19, 2026 – McGill University has officially launched HONK, North America’s leading provider of contactless payments for parking and mobility, as its mobile parking platform for students and visitors across campus. The move simplifies the parking process for thousands of students and campus visitors, replacing 2 pay-and-display machines and bringing contactless payments to 13 outdoor parking lots, 12 downtown and one at Macdonald Campus.

“Modernizing our parking infrastructure enhances the overall experience for visitors and streamlines processes for our teams,” said Pasqualino Pietromonaco, Senior Director, Operations, Facilities Management and Ancillary Services at McGill University. “We’re pleased to offer a simpler, more flexible way to pay, especially for students and guests who rely on daily parking. This change reflects McGill’s ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive, accessible campus environment that meets the evolving needs of our community.”

With HONK, students and daily visitors no longer need to call the parking office to pay. Instead, they can pay directly from their phone using HONK’s mobile platform — no app download required. They simply scan a QR code posted on signage or text a code to the number provided at the lot to access guest checkout. Drivers can choose from Apple Pay, Google Pay, Interac, or any major credit card. Staff parking remains unchanged, with monthly permit programs continuing as usual.

“We’re proud to support one of the world’s leading universities with a smarter, more efficient way to manage parking,” said Michael Back, HONK Founder and CEO. “McGill’s decision to launch with HONK reinforces our position as the go-to parking partner for higher education across North America — and we’re excited to help make everyday life a little easier for the McGill community.”

The change eliminates unnecessary friction for daily parkers and allows the University to modernize its operations without adding complexity. McGill can now offer a more user-friendly system while freeing up administrative resources previously tied up in manual parking payments.

McGill joins a growing list of higher education institutions turning to HONK to improve campus mobility, reduce operational overhead, and offer a better experience for their communities.
