NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, ON, June 25, 2021 – Niagara-on-the-Lake is thrilled to partner with HONK, North America’s leading provider of contactless payments for parking, to give residents and visitors access to the safest, most user-friendly contactless parking experience in the country. Effective July 5, 2021, drivers have two touch-free ways to pay for parking in Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Heritage District: (1) scan their phone on a HonkTAP (QR Code) smart station for a fast, guest checkout experience, or (2) download the free HonkAPP from the App Store or Google Play.

“We are proud to roll out HONK’s contactless payment system across Niagara-on-the-Lake,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero. “With many visitors coming to the region every year, this payment option gives drivers a safe and easy way to pay for parking that doesn’t require any app download or account setup. It’s the ideal parking experience for our residents and weekend visitors.”

HonkTAP smart stations allow drivers to pay for parking with a quick scan of their phone. With no app to download or pay station to touch, paying for parking is easier and safer than ever. Drivers can choose to receive text reminders when their parking is set to expire, and can add more time to their parking session directly from their phone.

For app lovers, the HonkAPP offers another contactless payment option for drivers who wish to pay for parking and manage a session directly from their phone. Users have access to their parking history and can save their most frequented parking spots for even faster access to pay. As with the HonkTAP option, drivers can pay via Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Interac, and all major credit cards.

“Metered parking machines will continue to be available during the 2021 season providing motorists with the option of paying for parking via HONK or the standard format provided through a nearby parking meter,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “Niagara-on-the-Lake is committed to digitizing services in order to serve our community better and is excited to launch this new contact-free option for paid parking in our Heritage District.”

“We’re excited to bring our suite of contactless payment solutions to Niagara-on-the-Lake,” said Michael Back, HONK Founder and CEO. “Our guest checkout payment experience is the safe, clean alternative for visitors to the region who wish to skip the meter but don’t want to download an app for a weekend stay and our app is perfect for frequent visitors or residents.”

Residents and visitors may start to see the signs going up as Town crews begin their installation process the week of Monday, June 28, 2021. While signs will begin to be installed at that time, official use of the app in Niagara-on-the-Lake will begin on Monday, July 5. Rates remain the same, with the addition of a $0.25 convenience fee if HONK is used.
